Kuehne + Nagel to manage business for Roche in Greece

LBR Staff Writer Published 02 February 2012

Kuehne + Nagel, a globally operating logistics provider, has received logistics contracts from Roche, a global pharmaceutical firm, to manage its business in Greece.

Both the companies have also jointly developed an environment-friendly logistics solution which can reduce CO2 emissions.

As per the deal, the logistics provider will supply temperature-sensitive products for the pharma company under a clearly defined temperature ranges throughout the entire transport from pick-up to the customer.

The company said that the products should be kept between +2°C and +8°C and between +15°C and +25°C.

Based on the Kuehne + Nagel's own 'KN PharmaChain' product, which is a Europe-wide overland transport service for pharmaceutical products, the company's specialists have collaborated with the customer to develop a solution that ideally fulfills all requirements.

The service which is further developed and expanded uses refrigerated trailers which permit exact temperature control and efficient double-stack loading.

By using the new solution the CO2 emissions are reduced by around 85% and the remaining CO2 is offset by a project of the organisation myclimate, which is being financed with a one-time payment by the logistics firm.

Kuehne + Nagel executive vice president and member of the management board Dirk Reich said the implementation of this project is the result of a close partnership in the fields of sustainability and green logistics.

"This clearly shows that Roche and Kuehne + Nagel do more than pay lip service to the protection of the environment," Reich said.
